Message When I blew up my motor last fall at the drag strip and the shrapnel from cylinder #4 damaged my left turbine wheel (I could see visible damage). I sent both GT3071 turbos to Blouch Turbo in PA to be inspected. I was told the left turbo was bad and need a new CHRA (I knew that), and they said the right turbo was fine. I then asked if there would be an out of balance condition with the new left CHRA and the right one with about 12000 miles on it. He said the older right one would spool slower, so I ordered two new CHRA’s.

Now for the problem: I took both old turbos and new CHRAs to the Turbo Exchange here in NC to have them install the CHRA’s for me. Turns out I don’t think Blouch Turbo ever disassembled or inspected my turbos. BOTH Exhaust Housings were cracked inside!! Blouch said it’s common and not to worry about it. Turns out the right one (which Blouch said was fine) was so bad the turbine wheel had begun to rub on the housing. I’m not sure about everyone else, but I rely on the professional advice of these vendors when I order inspections.

So now I’m looking at 2 new CHRA and 2 new Exhaust Housings, no problem, I call Blouch to return the CHRAs because I want to upgrade to the new GT3076’s from Specilty Z (SZ) and the tell me to take a hike no refunds. I then asked if I could exchange the CHRA for GT3076's and same thing, take a hike. Then I ask if he can get the new housings and he said nope, they are not available. I call Seb at SZ and he has the new housings here in 2 days!

I would never recommend Blouch Turbo to anyone!

Now my experience with at Turbo Exchange here in NC was completely different. They did inspect the turbos and bead blasted them to expose all defects to the housings. He would have been able to get all the parts if I had not already done so. He took the time to show me the defects and explain the problems they would cause. He got everything done for a reasonable price and then met me 20 miles from the shop to save me a trip to Concord! I forgot to tell him that the right actuator arm need to be cut and re-clocked for a 90 degree alignment to the actuator arm. When I drove out there without calling, he did the job while I waited and didn't charge me for it!!! Just awesome service, I will take all my turbo work to them from now on. Chris Beckley is the key contact and he will accept work from anywhere.
